Development and commercialization of AltaML AI/ML software platforms to solve business problems

All types of businesses collect data as part of their operations. That data helps a business be more productive, efficient and competitive.

Alberta-based AltaML set out to unlock that potential for businesses by applying artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to business data. AltaML’s software helps address a range of challenges, such as to:

  • reduce patient wait times in a doctor’s office
  • reduce the carbon footprint for energy companies
  • improve occupational health and safety at construction sites

To help more businesses find their competitive advantages, Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) funded AltaML through the Business Scale-up and Productivity Program. With over 120 talented team members, AltaML is the largest AI employer in Alberta. It received the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 program Canada “2020 Companies-to-Watch” award.

(Video opens in the AltaML office, with the camera highlighting the AltaML logo on the walls.)

(CORY JANSSEN, Co-Founder and Co-CEO, AltaML) AltaML is a developer of AI software.

(CORY JANSSEN working at his computer) We work with organizations to identify where their data can be used to create real tangible business outcomes, through these new solutions and products driven by AI.

(NICOLE JANSSEN, Co-Founder and Co-CEO, AltaML in the AltaML office.) The biggest thing that comes from AI projects is organizations get competitive advantages.

(NICOLE JANSSEN, working at her computer) Sometimes that's increased profit, sometimes that's efficiencies, sometimes that's things like reducing greenhouse gases.

We're benefiting other companies in our province and our country, and allowing them to be competitive in their space.

And it allows them to compete globally as well.

(Video transitions to a computer model of an industrial complex, where the graphic model of the facility is compared to a photograph of the actual facility.)

(CORY JANSSEN) Because AI is this horizontal enabler that fits across industries, It's really about making us productive in virtually every area.

(Video transitions to a medical lab technician in personal protective equipment reviewing results on a computer.)

(CORY JANSSEN) Sometimes that means you're going to get a doctor's visit that much quicker because we've optimized the process.

(Video transitions to traffic driving in an urban shopping district.)

(CORY JANSSEN) Sometimes it means there's going to be less carbon from an energy company.

(Video transitions to a prairie scene where hay bales are drying in a field.)

(CORY JANSSEN) It's not just about sending our wheat or our canola somewhere else.

(CORY JANSSEN in the AltaML office.) It's actually exporting our ingenuity.

You know we're really focused on applying our technology to real life business decisions.

(Video transitions to physically-distanced staff working in the AltaML office.)

(CORY JANSSEN) The support from WD has meant we've not just retained our team but we've kept on hiring right through the pandemic.

(NICOLE JANSSEN in the AltaML office) AltaML has been around for three years. We started with four team members in the first year and we ended that year with 50 team members.

Every year since then we've doubled.

If we are helping predictions and helping businesses you know make better decisions we're elevating human potential.
